Method

The flight passenger statistics contains information about the number of passengers and the country of origin of said passengers. The statistics describes the monthly transport of passengers on flights out of Greenland from the six international airports: Kangerlussuaq, Nuuk, Kulusuk, Ilulissat, Nerlerit inaat, Narsarsuaq.

 

Only flights of civil nature such as scheduled and charter flights are included in the statistics. This includes taxi and other flights of professional capacity. Furthermore, only flights with a foreign destination are included.

 

Data regarding passengers are received monthly from Greenland Airports. Statistics Greenland do a general control for errors before publication.

 

The information regarding passengers country of origin are received daily from Greenland Airports, and are done in connection with passenger check-in.

 

The number of passengers are based on a census, whereas the country of origin numbers are based on a sample of roughly 90-95 percent of the passengers throughout the country.

 

The Government of Greenland introduced a travel ban limiting travel to and from Greenland on the 20th of march 2020. This was partly lifted on the 15th of June 2020.
