REHABILITATION

Since 2002, it has been possible to offer rehabilitation to people between 18 and 62 years of age who are unable to obtain employment or participate in education on normal conditions. These people's ability to work is impaired because of their health or due to social reasons.

Rehabilitation is business-related activities and financial help which may help the rehabilitee uphold work or return to work. Rehabilitation may also consist of education, retraining, or courses.

During rehabilitation, a rehabilitation allowance equal to 70 per cent of the minimum wage according to the agreement with SIK for non-skilled workers is paid.

A grant of 20 to 80 per cent of the wages to the company where the rehabilitee is employed may also be awarded.

The rehabilitation period may generally not exceed two years but can under exceptional circumstances be extended.

Persons with a permanently limited work ability have the opportunity to be employed in flexible jobs with wage subsidies if they do not receive social pensions and the opportunities for rehabilitation have been exhausted.
